Railroad Days Celebration - August 30-31, 2008

The Apple Valley Model Railroad Club is once again holding Railroad Days at the historic railroad depot in Hendersonville, NC. The OPEN HOUSE dates are as follows: Saturday August 30th from 10AM to 4PM and Sunday August 31st from 10AM to 4PM.  The model railroad will be operating and the public is welcome both days.

As a special added attraction this year we will have the Live and Learn Train which provides train rides for the kiddies. It will be in operation behind the depot the same hours as above.

The Norfolk Southern Railroad is providing
an Operation Lifesaver diesel locomotive that will be on the tracks next to the depot.  It will also be open to the public so you can climb in the cab (see pictures below).  Operation Lifesaver will have a representative on hand with information on that program.

The newly painted caboose next to the depot will also be open to the public.

Everything is free of charge.

Here's what was said about the event by the press: People climb on board for train day

Here's the picture during Rail Days on Saturday August 30,2008.  Jaydon Gay was the first child to operate the Apple Valley MRC switching layout.
His dad works for the Norfolk-Southern RR.  Wiley King instructed Jaydon in the operation of a switching yard. Wiley said "Jaydon is now an expert junior engineer."
