Our good friends over at the Saluda Historic Depot. The Saluda grade was once the steepest, standard gauge, mainline railway grade in the US.

The Carolina Mountain Division is the local chapter (division) of the National Model Railroad Association. This division will be hosting the regional conference in 2026. Hop on over and see what's happening.

The N.C. Transportation Museum is a historic site, once home to Southern Railway’s largest steam locomotive repair facility in the southeast, and a museum featuring all types of transportation history – railroading, automotive, aviation, and more.

Historic structures include Barber Junction Depot, an authentic train station built in 1898 that serves as the museum’s Visitor Center.  The Bob Julian Roundhouse is the largest remaining roundhouse in North America and is home to locomotives, passenger rail cars, and a full-size replica Wright Flyer.  The massive Back Shop, where steam locomotives were once completely overhauled, now houses rail cars of the past, antique automobiles, fire trucks, and the restoration of the Piedmont Airlines’ Potomac Pacemaker DC-3.  The Flue Shop houses the museum’s Bumper-to-bumper automotive exhibit.

Come out and visit us! The NCRM operates New Hope Valley Railway so that visitors can experience a ride on our historic railroad. Also affectionately known as the “Triangle’s Train”, it travels along 4 miles of historic railroad track through piney woods and over a trestle on an hour-long, round trip from Bonsal to New Hill and back. In addition, on some ride days we also offer food and drinks for sale. Steam locomotive rides are not available at this time but our diesel locomotives travel down the same route and offer the same exciting excursions. Join us as a member and help us maintain and operate the railway and help us with education and sharing the technological heritage of railroads! Visit our 1800 sq ft warehouse. We have a LARGE assortment of O gauge (Williams, K-line, Lionel, MTH) engines, O gauge parts, rolling stock, passenger cars, transformers, track and accessories. We also have many HO trains - engines, box cars, loose cars, built buildings, building kits, track, and transformers. We have a nice variety of N scale engines and rolling stock. 
We have a small selection of American flyer/S gauge, standard gauge, and G gauge.
